More About Kelly E. Dunn

Kelly E. Dunn, Ph.D., MBA is a Professor in the Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Dunn earned her M.S. in Applied Biopsychology from the University of New Orleans, her Ph.D. in Human Behavioral Pharmacology from the University of Vermont, and her MBA from the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business. Kelly has worked in the area of opioid use disorder treatment and withdrawal mitigation since 2005 and has served as the Principal Investigator on grants totaling more than $20 million from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She is also the current or past PI several randomized trials examining methods for treating opioid withdrawal, managing comorbid chronic pain and opioid use disorder, and treating cocaine use among persons maintained on methadone. In addition, she has led several laboratory examinations of opioid and cannabinoid interactions in healthy and clinical treatment populations, genetic mechanisms underlying differences in opioid sensitivity and potential for addiction, and clinically-meaningful variations in opioid withdrawal phenotypes to inform medication development. More broadly, Dr. Dunn has served in positions of leadership in the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) field, including incoming Editor-in-Chief of the journal Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology (ECP), Chair of the Program Committee and a member of the Board of Directors for the College on the Problems of Drug Dependence, the 2021 President of the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Division on Psychopharmacology and Substance Use, Chair of the Board of Convention Affairs for the APA annual convention, Co-Editor at the Journal of Addiction Medicine and Co-editor of a special Frontiers in Psychiatry collection of research on opioid-stimulant interactions.
